Energy Monitoring Application

To effectively reduce your energy costs they need to be monitored, analyzed and then efficiently controlled. Seems like an extensive task? Fortunately Horner APG has not one, but three solutions for you.

SmartMon Solutions - Power Meter Plus and Energy Plus

The SmartMon Energy suite of products is an elegant combination of hardware and embedded software applications packaged in an easy to install solution (3.5" Touch Mono and 5.7" Colour Touch Screen Controllers available). No programming is required, no additional devices either. In fact, you can hook up a standalone SmartMon Energy product to a machine, circuit or building via standard Current Transformers and instantly be monitoring and datalogging your energy consumption.

SmartMon records all the standard values as well as more in-depth Current/Voltage/Power measurements like min/max, total and 60-sec average. All logged with a date and time stamp on the MicroSD card in a convenient MS Excel format. Some SmartMon products come also with a build-in web server and pre-configured web pages accessible from any PC or a SmartPhone.

Typical measurements provided by SmartMon devices include:

  • Instantaneous Current and Voltage fro each phase
  • Voltage Average (Instantaneous and Min/Max)
  • Current Total (Instantaneous and Min/Max)
  • Power (Instantaneous and Min/Max)
  • Power Factor
  • Frequency
  • Power Used Today (kWh, numeric)
  • Power Used This Month (kWh, numeric)
  • Month Peak (kW) and more

SmartBlock Energy Module working with any X-Series OCS

Upcoming release of SmartBlock Power and Energy Monitor module (HE579ACM300)offers you the same level of in-depth measurements together with the freedom of using any Horner controller with a CAN Network. Just pick your All-in-One controller with the preferable screen size, connect the SmartBlock via fast and reliable CAN network and customize your application by using the free Cscape programming package.

It's quite easy to design your own alarms, display a graph or configure custom SMS messages which can be triggered by the event of your choice. CAN network gives you also the opportunity to connect more than one SmartBlock and in effect to control multiple circuits from a single controller.

SmartBlock provides the same level of detailed measurements like SmartMon does together with CAN network capabilities.

OCS working with Transducers

The third solution is for engineers who'd still like to design their own system with the controller of their choice, but do not need all the information that the SmartMon or SmartBlock ACMN provide. This solution allows them to keep their measurements and programme simple.

There are third-party components (transducers) such as those available from LEM, Socomec, ZURCK, Circuitor, SSET (and others) that can measure Current, Voltage or Power for a single or three phase systems.

Transducers then can pass that information via standard analogue signal (like LEM) or (in some cases) Modbus Serial connection (like SSET) to even the most compact from Horner controllers like the XLe.

With that information in place user can program the unit to calculate some of the power factors available for two previous solutions.

View, Monitor and Control from the PC

Access your Energy application from a very user-friendly interface, no programming skills required! Envision RV (RV stands for Remote Viewing) is a PC software that allows you to interact with your unit just as you would, standing in front of it. Browse through the screens, modify all changeable values, use function keys - no restrictions. Envision works over Serial, CAN, Ethernet and Wireless connection.

EnvisionFX (File Transfer) is a low-cost, Windows® based software application that allows you to easily transfer files between your PC and your Energy Monitoring device via intuitive graphical interface.

Envision Software can be used with any of the three presented Energy solutions.

Controller features you can use for solution #2 and #3

  • Data Logging - to keep track of all operations and store the measured data (all saved on 2GB MicroSD card and easily accessible from the PC)
  • Alarm Messaging - descriptive messages that will pop-up on the OCS display like 'Current Overload'. All alarm messages can be personalized
  • SMS Maintenance - fully configurable text message that can be send to you in case of emergency (or just for reporting)
  • Advanced Math Instructions - to program and calculate even the most complex energy factors

Standalone Transducers approach works best when you need the ultimate flexibility with choice of controller or Transducer and do not require the extensive information provided by the other solutions.
